Dr. Yehia Massoud, a technology and academia leader and scholar, holds a distinguished career marked by his dual contributions to academia and industry. After earning a Ph.D. from MIT in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, he began his professional journey at Synopsys in Silicon Valley. Here, he led teams in developing cutting-edge technology solutions that are now integral to global users’ daily experiences. He has held several leading positions at renowned institutions of higher education and respected industry names including Rice University, Stevens Institute of Technology, WPI, UAB, Kaust, Stanford University, IBM, and Synopsys Inc.
In 2003, Dr. Massoud joined Rice University, where he quickly made his mark by achieving tenure in under four years and leading the ECE graduate program. His remarkable ability to marry innovative research with practical applications set a new benchmark in academia, encouraging students to push the boundaries of traditional engineering education.
Dr. Massoud has served as the Dean of Systems at Stevens Institute of Technology. Under his leadership, the institution witnessed unprecedented growth in industrial partnerships and student enrollment. He championed initiatives that modernized curricula, incorporating forward-thinking fields like AI and entrepreneurship, aligning educational outcomes with industry demands.
At Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Dr. Massoud displayed his transformative leadership as department head, driving the department towards becoming a top-tier center for research and innovation. His strategic vision led to remarkable growth in research funding and industrial collaborations, cementing the institution's reputation as a leader in technological education.
Dr. Massoud’s influence extends deeply into applied research and industry partnerships. His collaboration with industry leaders such as Intel, Accenture, Google, and TI has facilitated strong link between academic research and commercialization. He has been instrumental in securing over $53 million in research funding, leading significant consortia funded by organizations like DARPA and the Semiconductor Research Corporation. His extensive publication record and numerous awards, such as the NSF CAREER Award, highlight his ongoing impact on advancing engineering and computer science.
